Xochimilco has many 'chalupas' of different names. We chose one that was appropriately names after the hot tourist spot.

It was a nice sunny day and we enjoyed the hour long trip along the river. Nearby 'chalupas' were musicians, drinks (yes we got some beer) food and even mariachis.

In Xochimilco even mariachis are floating by, willing to take any requests. For a nominal fee they will follow behind and sing whatever traditional Mexican song you desire.

Enjoying the nice ride and waving hello... Or telling me to stop taking pictures.

Gathering the family for a portrait picture infront of the plaze, between the new and old Mexican basilicas. Notice the pilgramage of the woman on the left. It is tradition to honor a promise by visiting the Virgen de Guadalupe, by making a pilgramages to this chapel. Most begin their way on knees from the gate entrance hundred feet away.

Here's a more modern pattern found in the stained glass of the church. The Church itself is modern as well.

Standing between the old and new Basilica of the Virgen de Guadalupe is a statue of pope John Paul - Papa Juan Pablo in spanish.
